那天晚上開槍, 就是我確切知道開槍之後, 我那種心情啊, 我沒有任何的憤慨, 也沒有任何的惋惜, 什麼也沒有。我整個心情是麻木, 一片的空白, 因為我根本不相信他們會開槍。

On the morning of June 5th, there was a moment that would come to symbolize the hope and the tragedy of those Spring days.
He disappeared into the crowd afterwards, and no one knows where he is now. No one is even certain of his name.
But for the millions who saw this scene all over the world its meaning was clear:
Here was human hope and courage challenging the remorseless machinery of state power.
The Chinese government interpreted the scene just as simply, but differently:

在收音機裏就聽到通輯令。一開始我還以為只有學生, 然後我聽聽聽, 最後我就聽到了自己的名字。我就特別擔心被人抓起來的狼狽, 我只能在唯一的一條路上走得好一點。最後我就決定自己去公安局。我說, “我來這兒, 是覺得你們把很多事情搞錯了, 不知道你們是故意搞錯了, 還是因為你們不了解情況而搞錯了。我經歷過這些事情, 我清楚, 我知道。我覺得我應該告訴你們, 應該提醒你們。” (六四檔案 / 2004)
